The year 2018 marked the commencement of the Leadership and Management
Training Programme in the Eastern Cape with Marematlou Training Institute as the
implementor. The actual roll-out of the programme spanned over three years, with
approximately 2681 overall participants and across various districts within the
Province.
The first districts that were inducted for the training were Alfred Nzo East and Alfred
Nzo West for the 2018/19 intake. Certification ceremonies were held on the 17th and
19th of March 2020 respectively in honour of 499 successful participants in the above-
mentioned programme.
At the dawn of the implementation of restrictions set by the State President of the
Republic of South Africa Mr. Cyril Ramaphosa of no gatherings of 100+ people – in
response to the outbreak of the Corona Virus in South Africa, these ceremonies had
to be adjusted according to the regulations. After consultation with the relevant
provincial education departments, MTI managed to handover certificates of
completion to School Principals, deputy principals and Head of Departments in groups
of less than 100 people in the venue at a time (sanitizers came in very handy for these
occasions).
It is indeed unfortunate that the certificates that were due to be conferred to the
Amathole East and Amathole West districts’ participants had to be cancelled because
of this outbreak. MTI prides itself with the ability to recognise and award merit,
creativity and innovation that is experienced through our tailor-made programmes.
